Billpay

Let your users check and pay their bills from your app through Monato's Billpay network.

Let your users check and pay their bills from your app. Monato’s Billpay network covers over 150 billers, with direct connections to major providers such as CFE and Sky.

What you can do

  • Look up a bill’s balance. Your user gives you their account number and you get the amount due.
  • Pay bills. Pay the pending balance for any biller in the catalog.
  • Buy top-ups. Some payees sell phone recharge packages.

How it works

  1. Pick a payee. List the payee catalog and choose the biller. Each payee tells you which actions it supports.
  2. Look up the balance. Optional. Send the payee and the user’s reference to get the amount due, if the payee supports balance lookups.
  3. Pay. Send the payee, the reference, the amount and the currency.
  4. Reconcile. Match your records against the daily payments file.

Two round trips: look up what the user owes (only when the payee supports balance queries), then pay it. You can send an optional idempotency_key with the payment.
