Direct Debit

Collect recurring and one-off payments from CLABE accounts and debit cards through Domiciliación Bancaria.

Collect recurring and one-off payments from your customers’ CLABE accounts and debit cards through Domiciliación Bancaria. Monato handles the full lifecycle of a charge, from your request through banking partner processing and settlement, so you can focus on your business instead of payment operations.

What you can do

  • Collect payments from customers by CLABE (bank transfer) or debit card.
  • Submit charges one at a time through the REST API, or in bulk with SFTP batch files.
  • Manage customers and payment instruments through the API or the Monato Portal.
  • Receive charge results and chargeback notifications by webhook.
  • Generate reports and reconcile settlements in the Portal.

Key facts

Fact Value
Daily cutoff 3:00 PM Mexico City time, on business days
Bank response Typically by the next business day
Payer dispute window Up to 90 days under Domiciliación Bancaria
Integration paths REST API, Portal and SFTP batch files

How it works

Every charge follows the same lifecycle, whether it came from the API or a batch file.

  1. Your customer accepts the mandate. The customer authorizes you to collect payments by direct debit. This happens outside Monato. You capture and store the mandate.
  2. You request a charge. Submit it through the REST API or in a batch file over SFTP.
  3. Penny validation (new instruments only). Monato confirms account ownership. If it fails, the charge is canceled.
  4. Risk verification. Monato’s risk engine evaluates the charge. If it is rejected, the charge is canceled.
  5. Verification response. Monato confirms the charge was accepted for processing, or tells you it was rejected before processing.
  6. Charges go to banking partners. Approved charges are sent in a batch at the daily cutoff: 3:00 PM Mexico City time on business days.
  7. Banks respond. Banking partners confirm or decline each charge, typically by the next business day.
  8. You get the result. Monato sends a charge_result webhook and makes the result available in the API and the Portal.

Charges created before the 3:00 PM cutoff go to the banks in that day's batch. Banks usually answer by the next business day, and you get the result as a charge_result webhook.

Integration paths

Most merchants use more than one.

Path Best for
REST API Programmatic charge creation, customer and instrument management, real-time integrations
Portal Manual operations, file uploads, reporting, webhook and API key configuration
SFTP / Bulk collections High-volume batch charge submission with CSV files

Mexican regulatory context

Direct debit in Mexico runs under Domiciliación Bancaria, a payment method regulated by Banxico and the CNBV. Payers have up to 90 days to dispute a charge with their issuing bank. Monato handles the banking network for you, but keep this chargeback window in mind when you design your collections strategy. See Chargebacks.
