Get sandbox access
How to get test credentials for each Monato product.
Sandbox credentials let you build and test without moving real money. How you get them depends on the product.
Credentials by product

- Make your first authenticated request. See Authentication.
What sandbox does
- Direct Debit: the sandbox mirrors the production API, including webhook delivery. Charges are not real and no funds move.
- Billpay: the sandbox returns mocked responses so you can see how the API behaves in each scenario. It is also where Monato certifies your integration before you get a production key.
Warning:
Keep API keys and secrets out of client-side code, public repositories and logs. Store them in environment variables or a secrets manager.
